Teachers exists everywhere, if we know how and where to look. Especially, if one develops the power of observation, one can be a student and learn from all kingdoms of nature. They teach us knowledge, harmony, beauty and the power of economizing energies. We learn by careful observation and study of nature, animals, plants, children, other human beings, books, various media and experiences. There is so much knowledge around us and computers have made it easier to diagnose, analyze and understand it. We grow inside the knowledge filled universe.
We, in turn, are teachers for others. We become teachers by teaching.
One of the most important talents anyone can develop is the ability to teach. However, there are several barriers to overcome, before one can become a teacher. There are schools that prepare the students to become teachers of philosophy, education, communication, arts, science, religion and economics. But that is not enough. We need teachers who can explain the Laws of Nature, such as the Law of Economy, the Law of Cause and Effect, the Law of Right Human Relations, the Law of Energies, the Law of Ethics, the Law of Equilibrium, the Law of Understanding and Peace, the Law of Tolerance and Patience etc.
Our schools and universities teach us how to secure a good job and make money. They may not describe their mission or goals of educating the students in that manner; nevertheless, the object is to make the student worthy of a diploma or a degree and then he/she can go out in the world and find gainful employment and live a good life.
There are many colleges and universities giving degrees and diplomas in various fields. Our magnificent libraries are full of books, videos and computers . The internet has become an invaluable tool for the progress of our society.
Is this increasing our values and expanding our thinking for beneficial results?
Why do we have increased pollution, increased crime, insufficient education, contaminated air, food and water and economic turmoil? Why do problems of humanity continue to multiply? Obviously the education is lacking something. It does not teach how to live life abundantly, how to produce better quality of food, how to be parents, how to create a world without hunger and poverty, how to communicate effectively, how to prevent disease of greed, selfishness and hateful living, how to be tolerant of all religions, races and color etc.
In this sense, education is failing us. Getting a degree or a diplomas does not eradicate ignorance and improve human behavior. We have not learned how to fully understand the future effects of our present thinking, discoveries and actions.
Where are the teachers who can teach the students how to be good citizens of this planet? Teach the students to apply the knowledge for improving the economic life of humanity. They must teach how to practice inclusive thinking and prevent pollution of our air and water. They must teach right human relations. They must teach that the world has become interdependent and each person can contribute his/her talents so that the others can also benefit.
A teacher should realize that he/she can be a fundamental influence on every student. A true teacher deserves respect and adoration for a dedicated life of sharing and giving. Teaching is an act of great service. To be a teacher means never to stop learning and practicing the art of teaching, because a good teacher transmits knowledge that can lead to wisdom.
